First off, I don't see how other people are having problems with this set breaking, because at least on my set, these figures are built TOUGH! I had to do some minor trimming to get a couple of them to transform properly but otherwise the set is perfect, for a set of cheap knockoffs the quality of them is probably comparable to most things Hasbro puts out nowadays... excluding the die-cast metal, of course. First thing I will say though, the first time I transformed any of these I had to use the tip of a hobby knife to pry some of the joints apart cuz I felt like I was going to break the figures otherwise, other than some minor maintenance for a few of the figures, and maybe a loose joint or two here or there, the tolerances on this set are pretty good! First off, the individual vehicle modes, they're all pretty good in their own right, the only one that has trouble staying together is the dump truck thankfully.Cement truck/mixer: I don't know what it is, but this vehicle has a very "optimus prime" looking cab, am I the only one seeing that?Crane: I can't tell you how many reviews I've seen where I've read horror stories of this vehicle in particular snapping in 2 upon first transformation also, the entire front section of this vehicle is made out of diecast metal so that makes this figure in particular pretty heavyDump truck: looks pretty good although a bit odd, has a little trouble staying together on the sides but otherwise is pretty solidGrader/front-end loader: by far the heaviest out of the set being made out of 2/3 diecast metal, the front "bucket" arms are a bit loose but otherwise it stays together perfectly fineExcavator: probably the weakest of the set as far as vehicle mode goes, the whole back section where the combine modes Head is stored is made out of diecast but because this has a relatively wide base it doesn't topple over too often, but due to the rear section being made out of diecast it doesn't stay together very wellNow on to the individual robots as well as transformation, cement truck: upon first transformation, I was kind of half terrified of this thing breaking in multiple places, but upon having patience and a fun hobby knife proved that transforming a figure doesn't require brute Force to do. The resulting robot mode doesn't look too bad except maybe a bit plain as far as colors go,but hey! at least this figure has weapons! Not removable mind you but molded in instead, along with a overhead cannon so that's nice.Crane: transformation is a little bit terrifying, due to the waist being easy to snap but otherwise, transformation is actually pretty enjoyable, there's something not mentioned in the directions though, the panels on the back of the shins can be hinged inward, allowing for skinnier robot mode legs. Dump truck: transformation on this one isn't too bad if a bit fiddly at times, one of the sliding mechanisms in the legs on mine doesn't really stay extended all the way so I have to have him with his legs together to get him to stand. other than that and the fact that the cab next to his head I had to loosen the screw just a smidge to get the gun to transform the figure is all right if a bit top-heavy due to the diecast.Grader/front-end loader: transformation isn't too bad aside from one part, the clip that holds the front end in the vehicle position I was terrified of snapping it off upon first transformation, I shaved it down just a little bit and now it transforms perfectly while still locking in place, also the peg that holds the bucket arms together in vehicle mode I had to chip the paint off just a little bit to get the peg to un-peg without breaking, the resulting robot mode leaves a bit to be desired though, he sometimes has trouble standing due to the fact that his shins toes torso and chest plate are all made out of diecast metal but the rest of him is made out of what seems like lightweight plastic, nonetheless he ends up being the shortest member of the set but that doesn't bother me too much. Lastly, the big bot, excavator: transformation isn't too bad if a bit haphazard, due to the way the shoulder plates are molded, I had to trim a little excess material off the tab slots to get them to plug in but even then it doesn't quite hold together very well, the fact that his whole torso is made out of diecast metal doesn't help, the paint on the head is a bit sloppy but nothing I can't fix myself, stands up surprisingly well though even with the diecast.All in all the whole set in robot mode is pretty decent for the most part the big guy leaves a bit to be desired but the set is pretty good overall. Now we get to the process of combining them all, this requires transforming all of them back to vehicle mode, the first part of the process isn't too hard it's just the individual transformations but in reverse, the hard part is getting them all into their combined mode configurations without breaking anything, the crane in particular is notorious for breaking due to this, once each of them have been transformed and combined the whole set as one unit is truly something to behold! And the set is BIG as well, not nearly as big as the legendary Voltron that came out a couple years back but it's pretty big, it makes most transformers look comically small due to its big size, I will admit it's basically a colossal brick in combined mode but it just standing there is glorious enough! Now as you will see in the pictures I did not just stick both the arm guys on as their vehicle configurations and call it a day cuz I feel like that was a bit silly, slightly transformed the grader a little bit to resemble an arm along with the cement truck so at least they look cohesive with the whole set.Now I did have something break on me but that was in the packaging before I even got any of them out of the plastic they come wrapped in, one of the little exhaust pipes that come on the main excavator bot in vehicle mode came snapped off in the packaging but because one was still attached to the figure it doesn't bother me too much in fact I think it gives it character more than anything. kind of surprising that this set was as cheap as it was, I got my set for 40 bucks and I can definitely say for certain that it was worth it! if you want to get the set I would say get it but only for a display piece due to the diecast. I don't feel like this would be a good idea to give to kids, as they might easily break it, you're probably better off getting them knock off transformers that can survive a few tosses over this... But that's just my opinion.
